The Charity for Environmental Illness

MCS Awareness Month 2021

MCS Awareness month green

May is MCS-Awareness month and an important time for us the charity to help raise awareness of this misunderstood illness. Obviously lockdown restrictions will limit the in-person fundraising so we're asking supporters to raise awareness of the condition and the charity through our social media. If you are on social media please add our yellow and green ribbon instead of your profile picture to your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. If you would prefer not to do this for the whole month then please do it on 12th May. When people ask you what the ribbon is for please explain about MCS and send them to our home page (www.mcs-aware.org) where they can sign up for our free newsletter or subscribe. Please also like, share and retweet our posts.ribbon with name

Reach out to someone who knows nothing about MCS. How have they felt having to stay at home and be isolated from friends and family? How has it made them feel to have to wear a mask in public spaces? How have they felt not being able to go out to work, attend live performances, worship or consult a doctor in person? Explain how the above is the norm for many people living with MCS pre-pandemic. Encourage them to visit our website to read more about the illness and understand how it impacts people. Please ask them to donate or donate yourself, if you feel that you can. Any amount is gratefully appreciated. Thank you for any help with raising awareness and/or donating!

History: May 12th has been designated as International Awareness Day for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND) since 1992. The CIND illnesses include Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Fibromyalgia (FM), Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). May 12th was chosen as it is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. She was believed to have suffered from ME/CFS.
